You may have personal property that is currently in storage that you want to make sure is covered by your renter's insurance policy.
To determine how coverage applies to property that is being stored, please consult your policy wording (see below):
- We will provide up to 10% of the 'Coverage Limit' shown on the Declarations Page for 'Personal Property', but not less than $1,000 for personal property owned by or in the care of an insured while the property is away from the insured premises. Personal property in your newly acquired principal place of residence is not subject to this limitation for 30 days from the date you begin to move; however, coverage does not extend past the date on which the policy expires (monthly renewal) or the date on which the policy is terminated.
As noted in the above policy wording excerpt, Goose does offer coverage for items belonging to you or left in your custody that you are storing off-premises whether it be a self-storage type of unit or a dedicated space in your friend's garage, your stuff is covered worldwide up to 10% of the Coverage B (Contents) limit.
Basically, this just means that your full policy limit isn't going to apply to the items that suffer a loss away from your home. If you have $40,000 of coverage for your belongings, it is safe to store $4,000 worth of items away from your home and know that there will be coverage!

Please be advised that as of Friday, September 9, 2022, we are no longer writing new business for renters insurance. If you have a policy currently and cancel it or let it lapse, we cannot reinstate it.
