Travel Insurance is meant to protect you for the unexpected and must be purchased before you need it. The timing of when you buy your insurance policy can sometimes have an impact on whether or not a particular feature of your coverage will apply.
Time Sensitive Benefits in the Goose USA Plus plan
For example, with Trip Cancellation & Interruption coverage, your policy will not reimburse you for trip expenses:
- if you purchase your policy after receiving notice of jury duty (the policy has to have been purchased before you get the notice);
- if you purchase a policy after any storm, blizzard or hurricane is named and which makes your destination uninhabitable or impacts travel plans;
- related to the bankruptcy of a travel provider resulting in a complete end of travel services, if you purchased the Goose policy more than 20 days after paying your initial trip deposit/payment;
- if your employer rescinded previously-approved vacation time, and you purchased the Goose policy more than 20 days after paying your initial trip deposit/payment;
- if you purchase a policy within 14 days of your trip being cancelled due to a hurricane warning issued by the NOAA National Hurricane Center
Trip Cancellation / Interruption / Medical / Evacuation
Pre-existing conditions that become unstable or experience a change in any way in the 60 days prior to travel are normally not covered by our policy. However, if you purchase your Goose policy within 20 days of purchasing your trip (or making the initial trip deposit), and you are medically fit to travel at the time your premium is paid, we will waive this exclusion. See the policy wording for complete details.
** Note that when cancelling/re-purchasing a new Goose USA Plus policy (i.e. to change dates or traveller details), these time frames get re-applied to the new policy.
